Dahday’s Pick For Spots To Eat and Drink Near Barclays Center
April 24, 2014
Brooklyn is new to this arena post-game or post-concert hangout thing.
In Manhattan, you have several Irish pubs and Walt Frazier’s new spot within walking distance of Madison Square Garden. Plus, K-Town entices foodies just a few blocks to its east. In Philly you have Xfinity Live, which is basically a mini mall of sports bars sitting now across the street from Wells Fargo Center and the two stadiums.
So where do you go near Barclays Center?
Nets fans going this weekend for some NBA playoff action – read up! Here are Dahday’s five favorite spots near Barclays Center. Enjoy:
Yayo’s Latin Cuisine – 36 Fifth Avenue, Brooklyn, N.Y. 11217
Yayo’s sits right off Flatbush Avenue, just a couple of blocks southeast from Barclays. You can see the arena from the restaurant’s front door. This place would do the trick before and after a game or a concert. It sports a nuevo Latino-style menu, with salmon, mofongo, paella and skirt steak plates among other dishes. It’s so close it’s the best pick if the urge is there for some rice and beans and a short trip into the arena.
Sugarcane – 238 Flatbush Avenue, Brooklyn, N.Y. 11217
Considered one of the best Caribbean restaurants in Brooklyn, this narrow spot isn’t big – with the bar off to the left when you walk in and smaller tables towards the back – but it has huge flavor. You can’t go wrong with some jerk chicken! Plus, the bar sports a mango mojito.
Mo’s Fort Greene – 80 Lafayette Avenue, Brooklyn, N.Y. 11217
This spot was cool way before Barclays Center could be mentioned in a Jay-Z lyric. Just north of the arena near the Fulton St. G stop, you would not be shocked running into a Talib Kweli or Yasiin Bey (Mos Def) in a spot like this. After a concert or a game, this is a dope choice. You may not always find an open armchair or wood bench, but you will dig the DJ and eventually get a drink and some dance space if needed.
Buffalo Wind Wings – 139 Flatbush Avenue, Brooklyn, N.Y. 11217
Ok, ok, it’s a chain restaurant. We know. But it’s a know-what-to-expect sports bar that serves wings, beer, burgers…and we mentioned wings, right? It has the TVs and the atmosphere. And it sits on the second floor of the shopping center literally across the street from the arena. A good choice if you feel like pre-gaming or post-gaming a Nets game.
Social Butterfly – 857 Atlantic Avenue, Brooklyn, N.Y. 11217
Located east of the arena about a block from the Clinton-Washington Avs. C stop, this is the spot you hit up when you are straight up trying to party. Look up the site to see if the DJ is spinnin’ music you like this would likely be the last stop of the evening.
