Danny Garcia, Philadelphia’s WBA and WBC junior welterweight titlist, will fight little known Rod Salka August 9 at Barclays Center, a friendly arena for his boxing career. He fought Erik Morales in October 2012 and Zab Judah in August 2013 in Brooklyn, both in victory.
Garcia shares the card with Washington D.C. native Lamont Peterson, who is expected to be Garcia’s next opponent if and when both win their August 9 bouts. The two boxers have a few things in common. Both were unappreciated prospects who upset Amir Khan, catapulting their boxing careers. Now both also are staying put at 140 pounds after attempts to move up in weight.
