It’s Planetary.

You may know me from the hip-hop group Outerspace, and/or super group Army of the Pharaohs, but you may not. Either way, it’s cool beans. Speaking of BEANS, before I start, I’d like to shout out Beanie Sigel for having one of rap’s strongest verses of 2015. Check out “Keep Dealing” off that Pusha T album. I’m going to make this brief and get to the fun stuff shortly. I just want to say real quick that there was large quantities of really good music in 2015 – so much that this took me very long to put together, start over, revisit and bring changes to the list multiple times. Who said Hip-Hop was dead? I hope you enjoy ’cause I love to talk.

Conway the Machine — Reject 2

Although I think the album should be reversed where the end should be the beginning with “Salute Me,” this album is hard as nails. Straight NYC, grimy, street hip-hop. Straight from the gristle. Capone -N- Noreaga — LESSONS

Legendary, right? Yes. C-N-N has that kind of chemistry that no matter how long they separate, they return like it’s brand new. The production on this album has the typical boom bap, hard body C-N-N style, neck-snapping beats we’re used to. To put the cherry on top they reunited with the legendary Tragedy, (formerly known as Intelligent Hoodlum) and he slaughters every joint he’s on. He hasn’t lost a step. Raekwon —- Fly International Luxurious Art

Raekwon continues to hold his own as a solo artist. Between the production, and features such as Snoop Dogg, Ghostface, Rick Ross, and 2 Chainz, he strategically keeps his ear to the streets and his relationships with artists intact. Rae is just one of those guys that sounds good on anything. He can make something out of nothing, but that’s not the case here. This whole album is dope. Don’t let the French Montana feature steer you away. That song is actually my favorite on the album. Machine Gun Kelly — General Admission

I’ve already caught hell from my asshole friend Vinnie Paz for liking this album the way I do, but I’m positive he hasn’t listened to it haha. I’m not sure if it was a vibe I was on but I was surprised at his story and how he expressed himself on this record. The beats aren’t mind blowing but I was more focused on the content and got trapped into the story. He went very deep and personal on this project and the kid can rap. There’s no doubt about that. At the end of the day, as an emcee, lyrics and cadence are going to take over. As a father of four listening, he has a song called “Gone” which hit close to home for me. I slowed down the touring because it was slowing me down and my kids were growing up fast. It’s a hard situation to be in, and I earned a lot of respect for MGK with this record. So be it. Prhyme – Prhyme (Deluxe Version)

Now, I won’t lie. This combo led me to believe this was going to be the best album made in quite some time. It wasn’t. It was missing something. It wasn’t wack by any means, it’s definitely good. It was missing some pieces, in my opinion (of course). Then they released the ” Deluxe Version.” They added  Black Thought, Joey Bada$$, and more. Ok, now I’m sold. These were the missing pieces. Gotta respect young Joey. This kid is hustling and succeeding. He’s also doing it sounding like he’s in a 1993 vortex. He captured a sound to satisfy an old man like me and make this younger generation still respect the lyrical aspect of making rap records. This is solid and refreshing.
