#HipHop4Flint Heading To NYC This Week, Newark Soon Raises Funds For Flint

March 20, 2016

Dozens of hip hop artists are coming together to help the Flint, Michigan water crisis.

Hip Hop 4 Flint logoCreated by native and human rights activist and hip hop artist Queen Yonasda, #HipHop4Flint is a series of benefit concerts raising money to combat those affected in Flint. Two of these shows will take place in the area: on Tuesday, March 22 at S.O.B.’s in NYC and on Saturday, April 2 at Robert Treat Hotel in Newark, N.J.

Tuesday’s concert includes classic hip hop artists like Lord Jamar from Brand Nubian, DJ Grand Wizard Theodore and Mr. Cheeks  as well as contemporary underground artists like Poison Pen. Scheduled to appear at the April 2 show in Newark include Du “Doitall” Kelly of the Lords of the Underground, Miss Nana, Artifacts and Rahzel, among others. The goal of #HipHop4Flint is to raise at least $80,000 towards purchasing high quality water filters for 250 homes in Flint.

In a more publicized effort, a #JusticeForFlint benefit concert last month with stars like Stevie Wonder, Ledisi and Janelle Monae reportedly raised $156,000 for Flint.

Those that cannot attend one of these shows are urged to donate money or water filters directly to:

Prince of Peace Church
1417 Stevenson Street
Flint, MI 48504
