Danny Garcia May Fight In North Philly On November 12

Philadelphia’s Danny Garcia reportedly will fight a to be determined opponent in his hometown this November.
ESPN’s Dan Rafael reports the welterweight world titleholder is set to fight at Liacouras Center on the campus of Temple University on Saturday, November 12. Garcia’s opponent will be Samuel Vargas according to reports.
This local fight would be the first time Garcia would defend his championship belt in his hometown, having fought mostly out of Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., mostly recently winning a controversial decision against Lamont Peterson in 2015.Two of his biggest victories, namely against Amir Khan and Lucas Matthysse, were in Las Vegas.
This November fight may lay the groundwork for a Keith Thurman matchup in 2017.This match-up would be a natural fit, for both boxers fight in the Premier Boxing Champions series and are managed by Al Haymon. Garcia, who is undefeated, has been criticized for facing weaker opponents, A matchup against Thurman or a welterweight of his stature would be a welcome fight to boxing fans, and Danny Garcia fans, alike.
