Dahday’s Five Favorite B.B. King Blues Club & Grill Live Clips
April 28, 2018
One of New York City’s most recognizable concert venues, B.B. King Blues Club & Grill, is closing its doors after a Buddy Guy performance taking place there on April 29.
This Times Square dinner theater – which was forced to close due to rising rents – has been a dope, intimate place to enjoy a live performance. It also frequently showcased R&B, Hip Hop, classic salsa and reggae artists. Fans from all over the region and tourists from all over the world took to the venue’s location in the heart of Times Square and its proximity to the 42nd Street MTA stop and New York Penn Station.
In honor of a great venue, here are Dahday’s five favorite live clips:
B.B. King’s, as it was affectionately called, was a frequent stop for classic salsa bands and soneros. That dance floor sitting just in front the of stage made it a great to enjoy la musica. Here is a clip of Eddie Palmieri’s band performing live:
This dinner theater also was a frequent stop for 70s and 80s funk and R&B’s best. Cameo returned home a couple years ago to play all the hits, including “Back and Forth:”
Also among the venue’s most memorable moments would be when the late Prince crashed a Larry Graham & GCS show in 2010:
Reggae music was another genre well represented at this Times Square spot. Each year B.B. King’s would have Bob Marley tribute shows and would also host reggae’s best, including Morgan Heritage:
Always welcome to especially old school and classic hip hop artists, the venue’s final shows featured this dope performance by Doug E. Fresh and Slick Rick:
Rest in peace, B.B. King’s.
