This borough serves as host to some events synonymous with its population’s cultures but also stages some newer outdoor concerts that you may not have heard of. Let us help you learn more. Here is our favorite outdoor concerts – some free and some not – happening in BK this summer.
Saturday, July 9 at 8pm: Maxwell at Ampitheater at Coney Island, Brooklyn, N.Y. | Free Price Quote

Homeboy Maxwell with his “Lake By The Ocean” album just out performs live at the newest concert venue in BK – a 5,000-seat ampitheater in Coney Island.

July 9-10: AfroLatino Festival at Bed-Stuy Restoration Plaza, Brooklyn, N.Y. | Buy Tickets

Celebrating the Black diaspora in Latin America through music, this festival features musicians, rappers and DJs will fill the air with the sounds of Latin American’s Black music, such as El Caribefunk and DJ Madam Vacile on Saturday and Oakland-based Los Rakas and Garifuna artist Aurelio Martinez on Sunday.

The 12th annual event culminates in a finale concert featuring the legendary Nas with The Soul Rebels, Fabolous and Talib Kweli among others. Also for your enjoyment during this hip hop outdoor jam, the vendor village will have food and gear for purchase as well.

Saturday, July 30 at 6:30pm: Digable Planets at Camp Lo at Prospect Park Bandshell, Brooklyn, N.Y. | Free

For classic hip hop heads, this rare show featuring the jazz-infused rap trio Digable Planets and the “Luchini” duo Camp Lo will be a perfect summer concert choice.The BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! Rock and soul listeners can indulge in this festival with its always eclectic lineup, including Cee Lo Green, Janelle Monae and The Internet, the California-based band which continues to pick up traction for its R&B-rooted melodies and infusion of acid jazz tones.

A time-honored highlight of New York City’s cultural parade season, the annual carnival culminates on Monday after a weekend’s worth of concerts from the hottest artists of soca, reggae and dancehall music.
